Plum Headed Parakeet

Description

A gentle, sociable and highly affectionate bird. The plum-headed parakeet make great pets due to their quiet and often independent behaviour. Bonding strongly with owners, however they are less demanding of social interaction than other species. Regular human interaction is still required however to maintain human bonding. Stunning in appearance the plumb-headed parakeet gets its name from their purple reddish head plumage accompanied by a black outer ring for males and a blue-grey head for females with yellow tinged feathers for females.

A very active bird they require daily exercise, enclosures or cages should be large enough to allow them to exercise. In addition we stock a wide range of cages that are suitable for Plum-headed parakeets. A variety of perches and toys will keep them stimulated and allow them to play. Additionally, providing additional exercise time, for instance out of cage time to explore and fly as well as the occasional chance to bathe will be beneficial in their care and help them thrive. This in turn prevents them from becoming bored easily.
